Blue Days Red Days

Can you burn on days that are restricted as "red"
aka: no-burn days?

Yes and No. This depends on the wood burning device. The law says that you may use an EPA Phase II cerfified woodstove or fireplace insert, approved pellet stoves, and for residential sole source of heat even on Red days.

Most stoves sold after 1990 are EPA certified and should come with an endorsement. If you have a new stove you can apply for a exemption permit. You can find information, phone numbers and an application form at The Colorado Department of Health.

If you are armed with the manufacturer name and model, you might call 720-865-5452. If wood is your sole source of heat, you should call 303-692-3157. Or, to peruse the most common questions and answers, and to get more information, visit The Department of Health Questions & Answers

If you have an older stove or open fireplace, you cannot burn without the "Blue" go ahead.
